What is the relationship between Florida Virtual School and Florida Virtual Global Services?

As the success of Florida Virtual School (FLVS) was established and gained notoriety throughout the nation, more and more inquiries came in about purchasing courseware, class seats, and training services. FLVS leaders asked for and gained permission from the Florida legislature to deliver products and services outside the state of Florida with the stipulation that all revenue would go back into improving those products and services for everyone. Thus, Florida Virtual Global Services was created to deliver courses, training, and more outside of Florida.

What is the story behind Florida Virtual School?

Florida Virtual School (FLVS) is an established leader in developing and providing virtual K-12 education solutions to students throughout the country. A nationally recognized e-Learning model, FLVS was founded in 1997 was the country’s first state-wide Internet-based public high school. Today, FLVS serves middle and high school students with more than 90 courses. In 2000, the Florida Legislature established as an independent educational entity with a gubernatorial appointed board. FLVS is the only public school where funding is tied directly to student performance. Florida Virtual Global Services provides online solutions for grades 6 to 12, as well as for adults seeking GED alternatives across the nation.

Student Enrollment at FLVS
In 2005-06, FLVS served more than 31,000 students in 68,000 half-credit courses. Courses are available to public, private, and home school students. National and international students can enroll in FLVS on a tuition basis.

Florida Faculty
Over 256 FLVS full-time and 182 adjunct teachers reside throughout Florida and beyond. All FLVS teachers possess a valid Florida teaching certificate and are certified specifically in the subject they teach.More than 64% of our staff hold advanced degrees, and 75 are national board certified.
    
Courses are delivered over the Internet. To assure student success with virtual learning, a variety of web-based, technology-based and traditional resources are provided. Teachers communicate with students and parents on a regular basis via phone, email, online chats, instant messaging, and discussion forums.
